Just use Debian 13 (Trixie)

l-you avatarl-you

If you’re wondering which Linux distribution to use, just use Debian 13 (Trixie).

It’s the current stable release. It will stay supported long enough that you do not need to think about upgrades every few months.

Why this choice:

  • Works everywhere: servers, VPS, cloud images, Raspberry Pi (Pi OS is based on it as of April 2026)
  • Devcontainers already support debian-13 / trixie
  • Modern enough (kernel 6.x, new toolchains), but still predictable
  • No distro-specific quirks to fight later

The alternative is either moving too fast and accepting instability, or staying behind and missing current tooling.

If you don’t have a strong reason to choose something else, you don’t need one.
